                     HAPPY WINTERS DAY!

Winter Solstice, is the time the sun reaches the Tropic of Capricorn. It occurs the first day of Winter. On this day (December 21 or 22) in the northern hemisphere the sun is farthest south and the length of time between sunrise and sunset is the shortest of the year. In the pagan tradition the solstice is also know as Yuletide, Alban or the Arthanthis holiday and is celebrated as the rebirth of the Great God who is viewed as the newborn solstice sun. Traditionally one would light a Yule log. It's lighted on the eve of the solstice (it should light on the first try) and must be kept burning for twelve hours, for good luck. It should be made of ash. As time passed the Yule log was replaced by the Yule tree but, instead of burning it, burning candles were placed on it. Evergreen, holly, ivy and the mistletoe were important plants of the season, all symbolizing fertility and everlasting life. Mistletoe was especially venerated by the Celtic Druids, who cut it with a golden sickle on the sixth night of the moon, and believed it to be an aphrodisiac. (Magically -- not medicinally! It's highly toxic!) Other customs of the holiday include weaving 'Brigit's crosses' from straw or wheat to hang around the house for protection, performing rites of spiritual cleansing and purification, making 'Brigit's beds' to ensure fertility of mind and spirit (and body, if desired), and making Crowns of Light (i.e. of candles) for the High Priestess to wear for the Candlemas Circle, similar to those worn on St. Lucy's Day in Scandinavian countries.

Happy Solstice may your Winter be warmth of hearth and spirit.

My Dear little brother, how alone you must of felt.
Alone in the world without any help.
not knowing if anyone cared.
I no it's not fair without family and the memories we shared.
There nothing that we could do to bring time back.
I just want you to know God loves you no matter where you are.
So if this is the first time in your life that you feel loved.
It's coming from our hearts, from up above.
There have been so many years you have been by yourself.
Without family around and no one to help.
Even if it was to just say “hi” or goodbye.
We have all been invisible and we don't know why.
I think about you and I get so sad.
I'm sure you do too when you are mad.
So please let me open my arms up once again.
To let you know that I'm always there when you need a friend.
Life is too short for you not to know.
How I feel inside
I just can't let it go.
So until we see each other again.
may God bless you, little brother
We are still from the same.

Chicken Dumpling Stew

Ingredients:

4 skinless boneless chicken breasts, cut in 1″ pieces

2 cans cream of chicken soup

1 can cream of potato soup

1 package frozen mixed vegetables

1 cup chicken broth

1 pepper (I didn’t use this either)

1 cup Bisquick

1/3 cup water

Directions:
Combine onion, celery, potatoes, chicken, soups, frozen mixed vegetables, broth and pepper in crock pot. Mix well. Cook on high till heated through. Cook on low 6-8 hours and then turn Crockpot to high. Mix Bisquick and water and drop by tablespoons onto hot stew. Cook on high 20-25 minutes.

CHICKEN POETRY

Chickens in Poetry
Have you looked beneath the surface,
of the greatest poems and verse,
And seen that almost always,
There seems to be an anti animal curse,
But have you not noticed,
That the 'Charge of the Light Brigade',
Is about the Carge the Chickens made,
That 'Dulce et decorem est' ,
Is about the war in which the Chickens
were the best,
That Wadsworths 'Daffodils',
Is about Chickens in the hills,
That 'The Owl and the Pussycat',
Is about a Chicken,
And that is that!

I should introduce a few of my girls....
The Black Frizzle is "Christine", the French Favorolle is "Phee Phee", and my little Silkie, "Princess Leah". They are all in their "teen-age" phase at the present.

HEN HOUSES ?

Taking a short fall break, away from the interior. Inspired by a photo from Hooked on Houses blog, my back yard hen house is slowly but surely coming to life. My goal is to make it the most unique and stylish hen house of all. I will post a few shots of it shortly, but this is my inspiration.
